Launched in 2018, Sonographia competition promotes sonography students' skill and professional development. UMI Students work with their teachers on applying sound scanning techniques and producing  quality images following industry professional  standards of quality. The finalists are judged by a panel of independent experts, UMI faculty, and student-peers.  Cindy Le became the winner of the first Sonographia competition in 2018. Her winning image started a UMI Sonographia Gallery at the UMI campus that displays  canvases with Sonographia winning images.
