STUDENT’S RIGHT TO PRIVACY
UMI complies with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA), which grants students specific rights regarding the access and release of personally identifiable educational records.
All student records at UMI are maintained exclusively in secure electronic format, including both current records and legacy files that were originally collected in physical format and have since been digitized. The Registrar’s Office manages and safeguards these electronic records within UMI’s secure digital infrastructure.
Students may request access to review their records at any time.
Disclosure of student records to UMI administrators and faculty members is permitted when there is a legitimate educational interest. Additionally, records may be released without student consent to regulatory agencies, accrediting bodies, oversight organizations, and in response to legally executed court orders or subpoenas.
Under FERPA, it is presumed that the parents of a student under the age of eighteen have rights of access to that student’s records, unless legal documentation is provided to UMI indicating otherwise. FERPA also allows students to challenge the accuracy of their educational records through formal procedures.
Any student, faculty, or staff member who directly or indirectly violates the privacy rights of another individual—whether student, faculty, or staff—may be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including dismissal from UMI.
STATEMENT OF NON-DISCRIMINATION
United Medical Institute complies with all requirements imposed by or pursuant to Title VI and VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, Title IX of the Educational Amendment of 1972, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, and the Age Discrimination Act of 1975.
United Medical Institute considers for admissions students who meet the minimum program admission requirements and demonstrate reasonable ability to benefit from the program. United Medical Institute does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national and ethnic origin, age, gender, sexual orientation, disability (mental or physical), or any other consideration made unlawful by Federal, State, or Local laws, in any of its policies, procedures, or practices.
This nondiscrimination policy covers, but is not limited to educational policies, admission policies, scholarship and loan programs.
Students should disclose and provide documentation of their disability to their admission advisor or to the school administrator if they require special accommodations. As needed, an individualized accommodation plan will be developed. Such a plan may include reasonable special accommodations for extending deadlines for assignments, testing time and method, accommodations in use of recording devices and similar technologies, and helping students identify or locate additional resources.
