Formal credentialing is not mandatory for practice in the field of sonography in California, Arizona, and an additional 42 states.
It's important to note that individual employers may have preferences or specific requirements regarding professional credentials.
UMI DMS programs provide program-specific paths to credentialing, ensuring our graduates are well-equipped for success in their chosen careers.

ARDMS
The American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography® (ARDMS®) administers examinations and awards credentials in areas of ultrasound. Through its mission, ARDMS empowers sonographers to provide exceptional patient care through rigorous assessments and continual learning.
ARRT
A leading credentialing organization, ARRT offers certification and registration in a wide range of radiologic disciplines, including Sonography, helping people who work in medical imaging and radiation therapy to develop their careers. With approximately 350,000 registrants, ARRT promotes high standards of patient care.
Credentialing Pathways
UMI DMS programs offer several eligibility pathways to pursue your professional sonography credentialing with ARRT and/or ARDMS.
ARRT credentialing is available only for graduates from UMI A.S. and B.S. Degree Programs in Diagnostic Medical Sonography.
ARDMS credentialing is available to graduates from UMI DMS Diploma, A.S. and B.S. degree programs under varied ARDMS Prerequisite categories.
All ARDMS applicants must complete ARDMS SPI Exam regardless of the Prerequisite category.
Students and graduates who have a Bachelor's Degree earned prior to completing UMI's DMS Diploma or A.S. Degree program have additional eligibility pathway for ARDMS credentialing.
